Space Tragic – n. someone who passionately believes in the long term development of space, and desperately wants to go to space for him/her self. often confused with an alt.space-tragic, who believes in the viability of commercial space development by the private sector, if only (a)big government would get out of the way, and (b) investors would just see the obvious value of their great project.

Sad to say – that probably describes me to a greater or lesser extent. I’ve just resigned myself to the reality that “in my lifetime” will probably have to extend out to 150 years of so – hence my current interest in nanotech.

First of all, your tagline on this blog is misleading. This isn’t by someone, it apparently has several contributors.

And one man’s Kool-Aid is another space tragic’s slim hope for the future.

Badger,

while your comment is correct, i should clarify by saying that when i first set this blog up it was meant to be my own opinion on the space sector. I have been fortunate enough to have 3 people i respect join me as contributors to this blog. I will amend the tag line accordingly.

Best regards,

Badger, slim hopes for the future are best served when based on reality and fact. Its easier and far more likely to lead to success if ventures are built on solid foundations, just like when building a house or a high rise. Kool Aid is like quick sand or bay mud. As soon as a little shaking starts, well, you know what happens. All of us on this list, like you, have either slim or greater than slim hopes for the future. While I cannot speak for the others on this list, I can say that moving forward to the future using reality rather than best wishes and less than real science or engineering does not serve this developing industry or businesses trying very hard to be successful. As for advocates and well wishers, we can be help out by making sure we are well grounded and then we can be useful in guiding, prompting, sometimes even attempting to demand the engineering, business skills, designs, and more that will more than likely lead to success in as short a time as possible. What good does it do for us to hang out in the world of Kool Aid? Its great to have dreams, just make sure they are plausible. If not, they are more likely fantasies. I believe its essential for developing alt.space that we fully know and understand the difference between a dream and a fantasy. Professor L.
